Mrs. Hinson's Happy Campers
Meet Mrs. Hinson
Mrs. Hinson was born in Connecticut. Before moving to Cary, NC, her family lived in Mississippi for a few years. She considers Cary to be her hometown, because that is where she lived during most of her childhood. After graduating from Cary High School in 1993, she earned a BA degree in Elementary Education at UNCW (Go Seahawks!) in 1997. She taught 2nd grade at Davis Drive Elementary in Cary for six years. During her last three years at Davis Drive, she also attended graduate school at UNC Chapel Hill. After earning her M.Ed. in Literacy in 2003, she worked at Penny Road Elementary in Cary as a reading teacher for four years. Mrs. Hinson was a Title I reading intervention teacher at Durant Road Elementary for six years. During her time as a reading teacher, she worked with students in grades K-5. From 2015-2017 Mrs. Hinson taught 4th grade. This is her fourth year teaching 1st grade at Durant Road Elementary.
Although Mrs. Hinson graduated from UNC and she will occasionally wear a UNC sweatshirt, she has a hard time cheering for the tarheels. That's because she has been an NC State fan (Go Wolfpack!) since she was in 2nd grade.
In her free time, Mrs. Hinson enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and Golden Beagle named Holly. She loves to read, work on digital scrapbooking, visit science museums and nature parks, jump at Defy Gravity, and relax at the beach. First grade was one of her favorite years as a student, so she is eager to make 1st grade one of her students' favorite years too!
